Consumers
Welcome to the Consumers section of the Iowa Affordable Assisted Living website. Information in this section is designed for those considering assisted living options for themselves or a family member.

Assisted living is the "new kid" on the health care block. It fits somewhere between independent apartments for seniors and nursing home care. Assisted living is designed to allow seniors to remain in an independent, homelike environment, while accessing services needed to promote ongoing health and well being. These services range from home cooked meals to heath-related care delivered by a licensed nurse. Staff can assist with personal cares, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.

There are a variety of resources to assist lower income Iowans and their families in determining if assisted living is the right choice. In the Consumer Toolkit, you will find helpful guides if you or a loved one is considering a move to an assisted living facility as well as information on rent subsidy programs and the Medicaid Home and Community Based Services Elderly Waiver.
